FAQ

What's the difference between a "sprint" and a "workshop"?

A sprint is a participative coding session lasting two days: Thursday and Friday. The motto is: "Move a project forward! There are no lectures during sprints, so you can concentrate on your work. Several sprints take place at the same time, so participants can move freely from one to another, or spend two days on the same sprint. The sprints of 2023 can also give you an idea of what's going on.

A workshop is a lecture-training session: the speaker gets you hands-on with the code, this format can take the form of a tutorial. Workshops take place at the same time as conferences, on Saturday and Sunday. The 2023 workshops can also give you an idea of what's going on.

Who can participate?

Anyone! It may seem surprising at first, but the only criterion is to have something to say, and everyone has something to say:

  • Are you new to Python? Then you've got something to talk about → Suggest a conference!
  • You've only been using Python for 5 years? If so, you've got something to talk about → Suggest a conference!
  • You've only been working with Python for 15 years? You've got a lot to say → Suggest a conference!
  • Do you know more about the subject than yourself? Everyone knows better than you → Suggest a conference!
  • Have you got it?

I don't know if my idea is any good, what should I do?

You can come and talk to us about it on https://discuss.afpy.org, or just propose it anyway: we'll get back to you.

I just don't have any ideas...

Ask us at https://discuss.afpy.org, look at previous years' programs it may be a source of inspiration.

Diversity

In order to improve diversity at the event, AFPy offers people who are usually under-represented at conferences help in finding a topic, writing the conference proposal, writing the conference support and rehearsing. Don't hesitate to contact diversite@afpy.org.

Contact diversite@afpy.org if you're interested. As volunteer time is limited, we will only be able to help a limited number of candidates. You can also contact diversite@afpy.org to suggest speakers to contact.
